At the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, the UAE Muay Thai national team celebrated a triumphant performance, clinching three medals amidst fierce competition. This prestigious event gathered 3,000 athletes from 57 nations competing in 14 different sports. UAE athletes showcased exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork, signaling the nation's expanding prowess in martial arts.
Mohammed Mardi shone with a gold medal in the 65–70kg category following an outstanding final match, while Zainab Bu Hamada secured silver in the 50–55kg division. Ilyas Habibali Ali rounded off the team's success with a bronze in the 75–80kg category, all significantly contributing to the UAE’s overall medal tally and underlining their commitment to the sport.
With these achievements, the UAE has now amassed a total of 11 medals, surpassing the 10 medals earned in the previous edition in Konya, Türkiye. Currently, the UAE ranks 15th in the overall standings with two gold, one silver, and eight bronze medals, while Türkiye leads the medal race with 105, followed by Uzbekistan with 49, and Egypt as the top Arab nation in fifth with 29 medals.
Mohammed Mardi reflected on his challenging journey to gold, emphasizing the focus and resolve needed to overcome tough bouts. He highlighted representing the UAE and the honor of raising the national flag as his primary motivations. Mardi extended his gratitude to the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, his coaches, and the delegation members for their invaluable support in achieving this milestone.
Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, Vice President of the International Federation of Muay Thai as well as President of the Asian, Arab, and UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federations, commended the national team for their remarkable accomplishments. He remarked that these results underscore the growing prominence of Muay Thai in the UAE and showcase the athletes’ dedication. Al Neyadi pointed out that this success is a testament to a strategic national approach to sports development.
Al Neyadi stressed the critical support provided by coaches, technical staff, and families who have been integral to the athletes' achievements. Their encouragement, guidance, and hard work have enabled the team to excel on the international stage.
These results mark a significant achievement for the UAE’s national teams and pave the way for nurturing young Muay Thai talent. Al Neyadi pointed out that the outcomes will further establish the UAE as a global hub for martial arts and inspire the next generation to strive for greatness in the sport.
