The UAE Athletics Team has significantly enhanced its medal tally to four, comprising two gold, one silver, and one bronze, at the 3rd Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain. This success has lifted the UAE to eighth place overall, securing its status as the leading Arab nation in athletics, showcasing the evolving prowess of Emirati athletes on the international stage.
In a spectacular display, sprinter Arwa Ali seized gold in the women's 100 metres, clocking an extraordinary time of 11.45 seconds, registering the fastest mark ever at the Asian Youth Games. This accomplishment marks her third record during the competition. Qatar's Dana Salem finished second with a time of 11.60 seconds, while bronze went to China's Yan Shinyi at 11.79 seconds, solidifying Arwa Ali’s remarkable sprinting abilities.
Aisha Mohammed, another standout athlete from the UAE, claimed gold in the women's 400-metre event, finishing in 54.25 seconds, showcasing impressive endurance and speed. India's Jason Edina earned silver with a time of 55.43 seconds, and Wu Xia Ying from Chinese Taipei secured bronze in 56.60 seconds. Aisha Mohammed's win is a testament to the UAE's rising prominence in youth athletics.
In the men’s 400 metres, Saeed Omar added a silver medal to the UAE's tally with a time of 47.18 seconds. Gold went to China's Jia Yang with a time of 46.57 seconds, and bronze was taken by Sri Lanka’s Costa Shanuka at 47.72 seconds. This achievement underscores the UAE’s dedication to cultivating young athletic talent through robust training programs.
Additionally, UAE celebrated its inaugural medal in hammer throw at the Asian Youth Games, with Mohammed Adel Al Ali earning bronze after projecting the hammer 62.03 metres. This breakthrough marks a significant milestone for the UAE in field events, complementing its increasing successes in track events.
The medal ceremony was graced by the attendance of Ahad Mohammed bin Kerdous Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, alongside Major General Dr. Mohammed Al Mur, a prominent member of the National Olympic Committee Board.
