As the United Arab Emirates celebrates its 54th Eid Al Etihad, the nation's impressive journey of growth, innovation, and global outreach is highlighted. It stands out as a key player in diplomacy, economic progress, humanitarian efforts, and sustainable development.
Leading Diplomacy on the International Front
Throughout 2025, the UAE emerged as a cornerstone in tackling both regional and global conflicts. It took initiative in addressing the Gaza situation, condemned the civil unrest in Sudan, and aided in negotiating a civilian-led resolution. The UAE also facilitated discussions between India and Pakistan, contributed to de-escalatory measures regarding tensions between Israel and Iran, and opposed recent Israeli actions in Qatar.
Moreover, the UAE fostered peace dialogues between Armenia and Azerbaijan and maintained its mediating role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, successfully finalizing 17 negotiation rounds that resulted in the exchange of 4,641 detainees. Major international leaders found their way to the UAE, which actively participated in significant gatherings such as the G20, BRICS 2025, and COP30.
Robust Economic Growth and Investment
The UAE's economy is on an upward trajectory, with a projected growth rate of 4.8% as per the IMF forecast. Non-oil foreign trade hit AED1.7 trillion in the first half of 2025, marking a 24.5% increase. Announced federal budget for 2026 stands at AED92.4 billion, as part of the National Investment Strategy for 2031.
Banking assets surged to AED5.199 trillion, including credit expansion at AED2.478 trillion. A novel initiative, the “UAE Global Centre of Trade,” seeks to draw 1,000 international firms, reinforcing the UAE’s stature as a global commerce hub.
Tourism and Cultural Renaissance
The tourism sector made an economic contribution of AED257.3 billion, accounting for 13% of the national GDP, with more than 16.1 million visitors welcomed in the first half. Cultural attractions thrived, with openings such as Disney Abu Dhabi, Therme Dubai, Al Tay Hills in Sharjah, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and the ARTE Museum Dubai.
Noteworthy is Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais's historic appointment as Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organisation, which underscores the UAE's growing stature in global tourism leadership.
Legislative Innovation and Technological Advancements
In 2025, the UAE revamped its legal framework with the introduction of new laws and authorities including the National Anti-Narcotics Authority, and revisions to the Personal Status Law. AI-powered legislative tools were adopted, and strategies were unveiled focusing on cybersecurity, talent acquisition, zero bureaucracy, volunteering, and family development in alignment with the 2031 agenda.
Artificial intelligence initiatives witnessed tremendous growth, with a 97% adoption rate of AI tools and over 450,000 programmers across the nation. The UAE-US AI Campus was inaugurated boasting a capacity of 5 gigawatts, alongside pivotal collaborations with France and Google, and a $1 billion initiative supporting AI projects in Africa.
Sustainable Commitment and Humanitarian Aid
Environmental conservation took precedence, featuring initiatives in deep-sea exploration, increasing Abu Dhabi’s nature reserves to 20%, and introducing solar, hydrogen, and wind projects.
The UAE continued to enhance its humanitarian reach, allocating $1.46 billion in global assistances. Over AED9.4 billion went towards aiding Gaza, comprising 100,000 tonnes of essential supplies and the evacuation of 3,000 wounded individuals. Additionally, AED3 billion was channeled to Sudan over two years, along with ongoing assistance to Yemen and numerous crisis-affected countries.
Infrastructure and Urban Expansion
Significant infrastructure undertakings advanced, including a high-speed railway linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai, a national road plan amounting to AED170 billion, and the ongoing development of water and energy solutions and housing projects across the UAE, reflecting the nation’s vision for sustainable urban expansion.
As the UAE commemorates Eid Al Etihad, 2025 signifies a landmark year underscoring the nation’s dedication to diplomatic leadership, economic resilience, technological progress, and humanitarian efforts.
