UAE Strongly Condemns Drone Assault on UN Peacekeeping Forces

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a disturbing surge of violence in Sudan, a drone assault on a UN logistics base in Kadugli resulted in the deaths of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and injuries to eight others. This attack targeted the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), which is responsible for upholding peace in the volatile Abyei region.

The incident, occurring on Saturday, has sent shockwaves through the international community. The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced a strong condemnation of the attack, reaffirming its steadfast opposition to acts of violence that jeopardize both regional and global stability.

UNISFA, which operates under UN Security Council directives, is tasked with preserving peace along the Sudan-South Sudan border. Attacks against peacekeeping forces are viewed as serious breaches of international law and a direct threat to ongoing peace efforts in crisis-stricken regions. Local authorities are currently looking into the assault, while the global community calls for accountability.

The UAE extended sincere condolences to the victims' families, the interim government of Bangladesh, and the United Nations, wishing for a swift recovery for the injured. This tragic incident highlights the escalating dangers faced by peacekeeping personnel in conflict zones and raises pressing concerns about the security of international operations in unstable areas.
