UAE Grandmaster Salem Abdulrahman continued his strong form at the 2025 FIDE World Cup in Goa, securing a hard-fought win with the black pieces over American prodigy Abhimanyu Mishra to claim a place in the Round of 64.
The event in Goa features more than 200 leading players and carries a prize fund of over US$2 million. Abdulrahman’s strategic play and precise endgame work allowed him to outplay Mishra, who holds the title of the youngest-ever Grandmaster.
Having begun earlier this month, the tournament runs through November 27 and uses knockout rounds that challenge both planning and endurance. Abdulrahman’s result enhances the UAE’s visibility on the global chess stage.
As the competition moves deeper into elimination play, observers and supporters will watch closely to see if Abdulrahman can extend his run further into the late rounds.
