Dubai Tech X Fund to Boost AI and Deep Tech Startups

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The University of Dubai has taken a major step to boost technology and innovation by launching the Dubai Tech X Fund, an AED 100 million investment program. This new fund aims to support startups working in deep technology (Deep Tech) and artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative is part of a larger plan to make Dubai and the UAE a global center for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. It will also help strengthen the link between universities, investors, and young entrepreneurs.

Vision for a Knowledge-Based Economy

Speaking about the launch, Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, Chairman of the University of Dubai Board of Trustees, said that the new fund is an important milestone in the university’s mission. He explained that combining education and investment is the best way to build a strong, knowledge-based economy. This approach supports Dubai’s and the UAE’s vision of becoming world leaders in advanced technology. According to him, the Dubai Tech X Fund will open new opportunities for students and innovators to contribute to the country’s future.

Turning Research into Real Projects

Dr. Eesa Bastaki, Chairman of the University of Dubai, also shared his excitement about the new fund. He said that the fund represents the university’s commitment to turning research into real, useful projects. The goal is to help researchers and students turn their ideas into commercial products and successful startups. Dr. Bastaki emphasized that the Dubai Tech X Fund will serve as a bridge connecting students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors to create innovative solutions that can make a global impact.

Supporting the UAE’s Tech Ambition

The launch of this fund aligns with the UAE’s broader goal to become a global hub for technology and innovation. Over the past few years, Dubai has invested heavily in digital transformation and smart technologies. The Dubai Tech X Fund continues this mission by providing financial support to startups that are creating advanced technologies. By investing in deep tech and AI, the fund will help develop industries that can drive the UAE’s economy for decades to come.

Partnership with Significa Ventures

The fund is being launched in collaboration with Significa Ventures, a well-known Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) programme builder in the region. This partnership plays a crucial role in connecting academic research with real-world business opportunities. Significa Ventures will help manage investments and support startups by providing guidance, funding, and networking opportunities. Together, the University of Dubai and Significa Ventures will offer an integrated platform for innovation that combines research, education, and venture capital.

Focus on Key Sectors

The Dubai Tech X Fund will focus on investing in startups that are building innovative solutions in several important sectors. These include energy, healthcare, education, and smart cities—all areas where technology plays a vital role in shaping the future. The fund aims to encourage projects that use deep technology and AI to solve major challenges, improve efficiency, and create sustainable growth. These areas will not only benefit the UAE but could also have a global impact by offering smart and scalable solutions.

Empowering Entrepreneurs and Students

One of the main goals of the Dubai Tech X Fund is to empower young innovators. The University of Dubai plans to use its strong academic background to help students and entrepreneurs learn how to turn ideas into business ventures. By connecting them with experienced investors and mentors, the fund will create an environment where creativity can thrive. The initiative will also help strengthen the UAE’s startup culture, encouraging more people to take part in building the nation’s digital future.

Building a Sustainable Innovation Ecosystem

The Dubai Tech X Fund is more than just a financial project—it is a long-term vision to build a sustainable ecosystem of innovation. By bringing together universities, investors, and entrepreneurs, the fund aims to create a continuous flow of new ideas and technologies. This ecosystem will not only support startups but also inspire more research, attract global talent, and boost Dubai’s position as a world leader in technology-driven development.

A Strong Future for Deep Tech and AI

The creation of the Dubai Tech X Fund marks the beginning of a new chapter in the UAE’s technological journey. With strong leadership, a clear vision, and collaborative partnerships, the University of Dubai is helping to shape the future of innovation. Deep tech and AI are expected to play a key role in solving global challenges, and with this fund, Dubai is ensuring it stays at the forefront of that progress. The initiative shows how education, research, and investment can work together to build a smarter, more advanced, and sustainable world.
