Vietnam's PM Advocates for Strategic Goals at ASEAN Future Forum

Post by : Shakul

During the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 held in Hanoi, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung urged member states to embrace a daring and visionary approach to navigate the evolving global context. He presented three strategic goals aimed at ensuring ASE AN's future prosperity.

In front of an audience of regional leaders, diplomats, and policymakers, Hung conveyed that ASEAN must aspire beyond mere adaptation to global shifts, advocating for an active stance in shaping these changes. He pointed out that advances in technology, artificial intelligence, digital evolution, and sustainable development are transforming economies and international dynamics.

Reflecting on ASEAN's nearly sixty years of achievements, the Vietnamese Prime Minister commended the bloc for its ability to transcend differences and forge a community grounded in trust and cooperation. He emphasized that ASEAN’s true strength lies not only in its population of around 700 million but also in its diversity and resilience.

The first suggested goal is for ASEAN to enhance its role in global governance. Hung argued that the region should take proactive steps in establishing international norms, regulations, and cooperation systems rather than just adapt to external changes. He envisions ASEAN as a hub for dialogue, trust, and stability.

The second goal is to transform ASEAN into a center for innovation. Recognizing the region’s longstanding position as a manufacturing and supply chain epicenter, Hung highlighted that future competitiveness hinges on technological progress and knowledge-based growth. He advocated for increased investments in research, innovation, digital infrastructure, and human capital.

The third goal emphasizes constructing a people-centered ASEAN. Hung pointed out that mere economic growth should not define success; development must also create opportunities for youth, empower women, support marginalized communities, and ensure that all citizens benefit from regional integration and prosperity.

In closing, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam’s dedication to ASEAN’s long-term aspirations and regional collaborative efforts. He expressed confidence that a unified and innovative ASEAN can significantly contribute to promoting peace, prosperity, and sustainable growth throughout the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
