Vince Gill Awarded Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement at CMA Awards 2025

Post by : Meena Hassan

During the CMA Awards 2025 on November 19, Vince Gill received the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony featured a heartfelt tribute where Brandi Carlile and Patty Loveless performed Gill’s beloved classic, “When I Call Your Name.” This award, which has been presented since 2012, has previously acknowledged legends like Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride, and George Strait, who had the honor of introducing Gill at this year's event.

Starting his acceptance speech with humor, Gill joked about being the only recipient who has never smoked weed. He expressed deep appreciation for Willie Nelson, whose friendship spans 50 years, celebrating his kindness and dedication to family. Gill took a moment to thank those instrumental in his journey, including the CMA team for trusting him with 12 consecutive years of hosting, the Grand Ole Opry community, and his loved ones. He playfully mentioned his children's names and affectionately referred to his wife, Amy Grant, as the “kindest soul” he knows.

Industry leaders recognized Gill as a pioneer of country music, with a remarkable career that has garnered him 22 Grammy Awards, a record four CMA Song of the Year awards, and notable honors including the Irving Waugh Award of Excellence in 2014 and the CMA Foundation Humanitarian Award in 2017. Additionally, he is honored as a member of both the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame, alongside having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Celebrating five decades in the industry, Gill released a new EP series titled 50 Years from Home, with the first single, I Gave You Everything I Had, launched on October 17. This recognition further solidifies Gill's legacy among the elite figures in country music, whose contributions resonate through the genre.
