Wembanyama Leads Spurs to Overtime Victory Against Pelicans

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Victor Wembanyama delivered a standout performance with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 blocks, propelling the San Antonio Spurs to a thrilling 120-116 overtime victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. His efforts kept the Spurs competitive throughout the match.

Supporting Wembanyama were crucial contributions from his teammates. Devin Vassell hit a key 3-pointer, while Stephon Castle made vital free throws. Harrison Barnes also played a significant role in the game’s final moments. Additionally, Luke Kornet registered 14 points and 12 rebounds, and rookie Dylan Harper contributed 13 points in overtime.

The Pelicans put forth a strong fight with Zion Williamson scoring 27 points alongside 10 rebounds. Trey Murphy III added 24 points and 10 rebounds to the tally, and Jordan Poole chipped in with 21 points. Despite their efforts, the Pelicans fell just short in the closing moments.

As regulation time ended in a tie, the game headed into overtime. Wembanyama scored early in the extra period but ultimately fouled out, handing the reins to his teammates, who capitalized on free throws and Vassell’s crucial 3-pointer to secure the win. The Pelicans attempted a late rally but could not overcome the Spurs.

The match was competitive throughout, with both teams trading blows. Wembanyama and Kornet each contributed 12 points in the first half, with Vassell scoring 11. At halftime, the Pelicans held a narrow lead of 58-57, thanks to Poole’s 14 points, Murphy’s 13, and Williamson’s contributions of 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Spurs are now 2-0, highlighting their strong team dynamic and determination, while the Pelicans fall to 0-2. This game spotlighted Wembanyama’s remarkable abilities and the balanced effort from the Spurs.
