Maple Leafs’ Goalie Woll Injured, Hildeby Steps in Against Hurricanes

Post by : Meena Hassan

The Toronto Maple Leafs' goaltender Joseph Woll was forced to leave Thursday's match against the Carolina Hurricanes due to a lower-body injury. Woll departed the ice after two periods, prompting Dennis Hildeby to take over as the backup goalie for the final stretch of the game. The precise moment and details surrounding Woll's injury remain unclear.

Despite Woll's premature exit, the Maple Leafs triumphed with a decisive 5-1 win over the Hurricanes, marking their third consecutive victory. Post-game, head coach Craig Berube mentioned that the team is still evaluating the severity of Woll’s condition, with no further updates available at the moment.

Woll, aged 27, had recently made his season debut on November 15 after missing the initial month due to personal issues. His anticipated return, however, has now been overshadowed by this latest setback, compounding the Maple Leafs' ongoing goaltending troubles.

Their other primary goalie, Anthony Stolarz, has been out since November 11 due to an upper-body injury, with no timeline for his return. Consequently, the Maple Leafs are facing a shortage in goaltending options during a crucial phase of the season.

Dennis Hildeby, who stepped in against the Hurricanes, has participated in six games this season, maintaining a .914 save percentage with one victory. His performance will be vital should Woll's injury necessitate a longer recovery period.

As the Maple Leafs grapple with goaltending uncertainty, the health of both Woll and Stolarz becomes paramount moving forward.
