World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has been named PGA Tour player of the year for the fourth consecutive year, earning the Jack Nicklaus Award for the 2025 season. Scheffler won six tournaments this year, including two major championships at the 2025 PGA Championship and the Open, reaching 19 career wins. He became only the second player after Tiger Woods to win the award four or more years in a row.
The Arnold Palmer Award, given to the best rookie of the year, was awarded to 21-year-old Aldrich Potgieter of South Africa. Potgieter, who won the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic, was the only rookie this season to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. He became the third South African to win this award, following Ernie Els and Trevor Immelman.
Voting for both awards was conducted by PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 official events during 2025. For the first time, voting took place from 4 to 12 December through the new player-only PGA Tour application and website, PGA Tour Central. Scheffler was chosen over top players including Tommy Fleetwood, Rory McIlroy, and Ben Griffin, while Potgieter won over Michael Brennan, Stephen Fisk, William Mouw, and Kob Philips.
In addition to his PGA Tour victories, Scheffler won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2024 FedEx Cup title. He now joins Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the Jack Nicklaus Award for three consecutive seasons.
This recognition highlights Scheffler’s consistent dominance in men’s golf and celebrates the emergence of Potgieter as a promising new talent on the PGA Tour. Both players are expected to continue shaping the global golf scene in the coming seasons.
