Yash Dayal, the left-arm pacer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has spoken out about his absence from IPL 2026, clarifying that the decision was not his own. He made these statements during a podcast, which comes amidst rising speculation regarding his future with the team.
Earlier this season, RCB's Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, announced that Dayal would miss the tournament due to a “personal situation.” However, his latest comments seem to contradict that statement. The 28-year-old emphasized that although he is not on the field, he remains engaged with the franchise and was neither released nor substituted by the management.
During the interview, Dayal expressed that watching the matches from afar has been emotionally taxing, as he misses being part of the team and cherishes the atmosphere of the dressing room. He noted that the franchise still regards him as a vital part of the squad, which is why he is listed among retained players despite not participating in this season.
Dayal also confirmed that he has been in regular communication with RCB's management, maintaining positive interactions with senior officials, coaching staff, and team mentor Dinesh Karthik. He underlined that there are no misunderstandings or gaps in communication, stating that all discussions have remained professional and open.
His absence has gained heightened media attention due to ongoing legal challenges, which reportedly include allegations related to sexual exploitation and issues connected to the POCSO Act. Such legal complications have hindered his return to professional cricket at this time.
As per police reports, the initial FIR was lodged at the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad, raising concerns under sexual exploitation clauses. The complaint was lodged by a woman claiming that Dayal had misled her for an extended period with false promises of marriage.
In a different case, another FIR has been filed at Jaipur’s Sanganer Police Station related to allegations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. In this instance, authorities claim that the cricketer emotionally manipulated a minor under the guise of promoting a cricketing career. Investigations in both cases are ongoing, with no court rulings issued yet.
Despite the serious implications of these legal issues, Dayal’s recent comments imply that his relationship with RCB remains strong. His statements have initiated renewed discussions among cricket fans about the underlying reasons for his IPL 2026 absence and the franchise's handling of this tumultuous time for both Dayal and the team.
