Zootopia 2 Achieves Record-Breaking Success in China and Worldwide

Post by : Meena Hassan

Zootopia 2 has made waves globally, with China accounting for nearly half of its impressive earnings over the Wednesday-to-Sunday period. The animated sequel amassed $272 million in China alone, breaking the record previously held by the original film from 2016 and solidifying its status as the highest-grossing Hollywood animated feature in the country.

In North America, the film secured $156 million, leading the domestic box office. The plot revolves around a tenacious bunny police officer and her crafty fox partner tackling mysteries in a city populated by anthropomorphic animals, delivering humor, heart, and thrills for audiences young and old.

The musical Wicked: For Good also captivated audiences, grossing $92.2 million globally in its second weekend and totaling $393.3 million within just 10 days.

The success of both titles is a significant advantage for theaters as they approach the holiday season, typically a peak time for audiences. Year-to-date ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada have reached $7.8 billion, showing a slight increase over last year, yet still trailing behind pre-pandemic levels.

Experts in the industry maintain a positive outlook, believing that the momentum from these recent blockbusters, alongside strategic marketing, will attract large crowds as the year concludes, particularly with the imminent release of the next Avatar movie.
