Apple TV Experiences Widespread Service Disruption in the U.S.

Post by : Bianca Haleem

On Thursday, Apple TV encountered a major service disruption affecting a large number of users across the United States, rendering many unable to stream their favorite content. Outage-tracking service Downdetector.com recorded approximately 14,907 outage reports, indicating one of the most substantial interruptions in recent times.

The problems began around midday in the U.S., prompting numerous users to voice their complaints on social media about issues such as blank screens, lost connections, and persistent buffering. A number of subscribers reported being unexpectedly logged out and struggling to access their watchlists.

While the outage was felt nationwide, cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston reported the highest instances of disruption. Downdetector's live outage map indicated a quick increase in complaints followed by a gradual return to normalcy later in the day.

Viewers expressed their dissatisfaction online, particularly since the outage coincided with peak viewing hours for popular shows and live sports available on Apple TV+. Some users noted that their devices showed signs of restoration before experiencing issues once again, suggesting a technical glitch rather than a complete service failure.

By late evening, most services had reportedly started returning to normal for users, although some still experienced minor playback challenges. Apple's system status page showed no significant alerts at that time, implying that internal teams were actively addressing the situation to restore full functionality.

For many subscribers, the hope is that this outage remains an isolated case rather than an indication of ongoing stability issues as Apple TV continues to grow its global streaming presence.
