Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron emphasised the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They highlighted that ending hostilities is critical to prevent further loss of life and worsening of the humanitarian crisis affecting Palestinian civilians.
Humanitarian Aid Must Expand Unhindered
Both leaders stressed the importance of allowing humanitarian and relief aid to reach all affected areas without restrictions. The expansion of aid is essential to provide food, medical care, and basic services to the population impacted by the ongoing conflict.
Exchange of Hostages and Captives Urged
President El-Sisi and President Macron called for the immediate exchange of hostages and captives held in connection with the conflict. Ensuring their safe return is a key priority in mitigating human suffering and advancing peace efforts.
Reconstruction Should Begin Without Displacement
The two presidents agreed that the reconstruction process in Gaza should commence promptly. They emphasised that rebuilding efforts must be carried out without displacing Palestinians from their homes and land, respecting their rights and preserving their communities.
Continued Bilateral Consultations
El-Sisi and Macron agreed to maintain close consultations between Egypt and France to coordinate international efforts aimed at ending the war. Both leaders highlighted the importance of joint diplomatic action to alleviate the humanitarian situation and promote a sustainable resolution.
France’s Support for Palestinian Statehood
President El-Sisi acknowledged France’s supportive stance on the Palestinian issue, particularly the recognition of the Palestinian State on September 22, 2025. This recognition occurred during the two-state solution conference in New York, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, and is seen as a milestone in international support for Palestinian statehood.
Encouraging International Recognition
The Egyptian president praised France’s recognition as a model for other countries to follow. He emphasised that wider recognition of the Palestinian State is essential for implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The call from Egypt and France reiterates their commitment to achieving peace in the region while adhering to international law and United Nations resolutions. Both nations continue to work diplomatically to protect civilians, ensure humanitarian access, and support the rights of Palestinians in Gaza.
