Etihad Airways has announced the launch of new flights to Kabul, Afghanistan, starting 18th December 2025. This expansion marks the airline’s 31st new route announced this year, demonstrating its continued growth and strategic investment across the Middle East and South Asia. Kabul’s addition strengthens Etihad’s regional presence and reinforces its commitment to connecting key markets.
Boosting Trade and Cultural Exchange
The new Kabul service is designed to support trade, investment, and cultural exchange between Afghanistan and Etihad’s existing network. The airline expects the route to facilitate travel for Afghan communities across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Australia, Europe, and the United States, creating stronger ties and more accessible opportunities for both business and personal travel.
CEO Highlights Community Benefits
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer at Etihad Airways, highlighted the importance of the new flights, stating: “These flights will serve strong demand for travel, enable trade and investment flows, and reconnect families and communities.” The route is expected to enhance regional connectivity while meeting the needs of growing passenger traffic.
Passenger Growth Drives Expansion
Etihad’s passenger numbers have risen more than 80 percent since 2022, reflecting a significant recovery and demand for air travel. The airline is targeting 38 million passengers annually by 2030, and the Kabul route will play a key role in achieving this goal. Strategic route additions like this are part of Etihad’s long-term growth plan, emphasizing both passenger convenience and economic opportunities.
Strategic Importance of Kabul Route
Kabul’s inclusion in Etihad’s network is seen as a major step in strengthening economic and cultural relations. It opens direct access to Afghanistan for trade, tourism, and family travel while providing more convenient connections to Etihad’s hubs in Abu Dhabi and other international destinations.
Future Prospects and Connectivity
The airline continues to invest in expanding its network, aiming to meet passenger demand, enhance regional cooperation, and support international travel flows. With Kabul now part of its growing network, Etihad Airways demonstrates its focus on connecting key cities and fostering stronger global links.
The launch of Etihad Airways flights to Kabul from 18th December 2025 highlights the airline’s commitment to regional connectivity, economic development, and community support. The service will benefit businesses, travelers, and Afghan communities globally, strengthening ties across continents.
