UAE Launches Bonded Rail Corridor to Boost Trade Efficiency

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs and Chairman of Etihad Rail, witnessed the signing of a preliminary agreement to launch a “Bonded Rail Corridor.” The agreement involves Etihad Rail, Abu Dhabi Customs, Fujairah Customs, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Fujairah Terminals, and Noatum Logistics, linking Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi with Fujairah Terminals.

Strategic Advancement in Rail Transport

The initiative, announced during the second edition of Global Rail 2025, marks a strategic step to strengthen the efficiency, safety, and integration of rail operations across the UAE. H.H. Sheikh Theyab highlighted its importance in boosting logistics and trade infrastructure, positioning the UAE as a gateway for global trade and investment.

Enhancing Economic Growth and Sustainability

The project also contributes to the UAE’s economic growth and supports the country’s Net Zero 2050 goals. By providing a secure, coordinated customs corridor, the rail link will ensure goods move safely and efficiently between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah while reducing environmental impact.

Seamless Customs and Logistics Operations

The Customs Corridor will allow seamless movement of goods, reducing customs clearance times. Pre-inquiry procedures will ensure that final formalities are completed at the destination, creating smoother operations for businesses. This integrated system strengthens the UAE’s logistics network while improving service quality for customers.

Competitive Advantages for Rail Users

Goods transported via Etihad Rail will enjoy priority clearance within customs systems, benefiting exports, imports, transit shipments, and domestic cargo movement between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The corridor will serve free zones and major logistics hubs, offering faster and more reliable transportation for traders.

Pilot Operations Scheduled for 2025

Pilot operations for the Customs Corridor are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. Etihad Rail is coordinating with authorities and customers to activate services, formalize cooperation frameworks, and implement monitoring mechanisms to ensure maximum efficiency and quality standards.

The partners plan to expand the Customs Corridor to additional stations, introducing innovative services and advanced technologies. This aligns with the UAE’s vision to modernize customs procedures, improve transport safety, and advance the nation’s sustainability agenda.

By meeting international standards and supporting global trade routes, the corridor will enhance the UAE’s position as a regional and global logistics hub. The project underscores the nation’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure that drives efficiency, trade growth, and economic resilience.
