Indian cricket fans are eagerly waiting as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma make their comeback in India’s ODI series against Australia. The first match will be played on Sunday at the Optus Stadium in Perth. This will be the first time the star players wear the Indian jersey since winning the Champions Trophy 2025.
Both players have not played any competitive match since the end of IPL 2025. Rohit has been training in Mumbai, while Kohli has been practicing in London. Fans are excited to see how they perform after this long break.
There has been a lot of talk about their future in international cricket, especially with Shubman Gill now leading the ODI team. Many wonder if Kohli and Rohit will continue until the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
Some experts suggested they should play domestic cricket to stay in form. However, former Australian captain Aaron Finch disagrees. He said, “Playing domestic cricket won’t make much difference for Rohit and Virat. They have the experience and dedication needed to perform at the top level.”
Finch, who is part of JioStar’s expert panel, added that the two legends must stay motivated if they plan to play the 2027 World Cup. “If they still have the desire and perform well, there’s no reason they can’t make it,” he said.
Finch also supported the decision to make Shubman Gill India’s new ODI captain. “It’s the right move. Gill is a wonderful player and has shown great leadership qualities. Giving him time to prepare for the next World Cup is a smart decision,” he said.
He added that Gill’s success in all formats proves he can handle the responsibility. “Planning for the World Cup starts now. Gill’s leadership will bring fresh energy and help the team build for the future.”
India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series starting October 19. The matches will be broadcast live on Star Sports Network and JioHotstar. Fans hope this series will mark a strong return for Kohli and Rohit while beginning a new chapter under Shubman Gill’s leadership.
