UAE Leads Global Sustainability Dialogue in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit opened in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Guided by Legacy, Committed to Sustainability.” Chaired by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, the event was held in partnership with the Environment Agency–Abu Dhabi (EAD), Zayed Sustainability Prize, and Zayed Authority for People of Determination, with NMDC Group as presenting partner.

Commitment to a Green Future

Dr. Amna said the summit reflects the UAE’s vision to build a sustainable, innovation-led economy under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. She explained that confronting climate change, preserving ecosystems, and advancing the green economy are key to the country’s progress.

Call for Collective Climate Action

She stressed the importance of cooperation between government, private sectors, and youth to align environmental and economic policies. The UAE, she said, is working to ensure that sustainability and growth go hand in hand.

Focus on Water Sustainability

Sheikha Dr. Shamma Mohammed Khalid Al Nahyan discussed water scarcity as a threat to social stability. She highlighted the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, launched in 2024, to promote innovation and awareness in water resource management. Her message urged everyone to act collectively, stating, “Today, a drop of awareness; tomorrow, a river of abundance.”

Collaboration and Innovation Drive Change

Khuloud Al Omian, CEO of Forbes Middle East, said the summit encourages collaboration and innovation to achieve real environmental progress. She described Abu Dhabi as a hub of green innovation and global environmental leadership.

Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future

A major announcement was the launch of the Forbes Middle East Youth Council, aimed at empowering young leaders to create sustainable solutions and support green entrepreneurship.

Abu Dhabi’s Environmental Leadership

Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of EAD, emphasized that nature is at the core of development. Through science and technology, Abu Dhabi promotes growth that values both restoration and innovation.

Discussions focused on AI, ESG, and public-private partnerships in building sustainable economies. The summit ended with an awards ceremony honoring leaders and organizations advancing sustainability across the region.
