GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi has highlighted the critical need for stronger Gulf integration and the unification of member states’ positions. Speaking at the 26th ministerial committee meeting in Kuwait, he noted that cohesive policies are essential to navigate accelerating global changes and interconnected political, economic, and security challenges affecting the region.
Expediting Legislation for GCC Cooperation
Al-Budaiwi emphasised that progress in GCC cooperation requires removing legislative and procedural obstacles. He called on member states to expedite the enactment of necessary laws, ensuring smoother collaboration across sectors and reinforcing the GCC’s ability to respond to regional and international challenges effectively.
Advances in Customs Union and Common Market
The Secretary-General praised recent GCC achievements, particularly in the customs union and efforts to complete the common market. These milestones are expected to enhance economic integration, increase trade and investment opportunities, and support member states in their ongoing efforts to diversify economies beyond hydrocarbons.
Economic Diversification and Regional Stability
Al-Budaiwi highlighted that strengthened cooperation within the GCC will support economic diversification, create job opportunities, and improve the resilience of member states’ economies. Unified strategies are seen as crucial in addressing both current and future economic challenges while enhancing regional stability.
Strengthening Political and Security Coordination
In addition to economic goals, the Secretary-General stressed the importance of political and security coordination among GCC countries. Unified positions on international issues and joint strategic planning are vital to safeguard the region from external pressures and complex global crises.
Ongoing Commitment to GCC Goals
The 26th ministerial committee meeting demonstrated the GCC’s continued commitment to advancing regional cooperation and fostering a shared vision among member states. By prioritising integration, legislative alignment, and economic collaboration, the GCC aims to reinforce its position as a strong and unified regional bloc.
Al-Budaiwi concluded by urging all member states to maintain momentum in implementing GCC agreements and initiatives. A united and coordinated approach will enable the Gulf states to adapt to global challenges, enhance competitiveness, and ensure sustainable growth and stability for the region in the years ahead.
