Honda Issues Recall for 406,000 Civics Due to Alloy Wheel Issues

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a significant safety initiative, Honda Motor is recalling 406,290 Civics in the United States after discovering a production issue that risks aluminum alloy wheels detaching while the vehicle is in motion. This has raised alarms among owners of the affected models.

The recall specifically involves certain 2016-2021 Honda Civic models that are equipped with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels sold as accessories. The defect, as confirmed by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), stems from the wheel hub assembly, which may fail to ensure a secure fit during regular driving.

Authorized dealers nationwide will conduct inspections on the wheels, and necessary replacements for both the hubs and wheels will be made without any charge. This action aims to avert potential accidents or injuries. Owners are urged to reach out to their local Honda dealership to arrange for an inspection as soon as possible.

This recall serves as a reminder of the critical nature of regular vehicle maintenance and the heightened awareness regarding aftermarket components, even from well-known manufacturers. Although Honda has not indicated any major issues, this precautionary measure illustrates the company's dedication to safety.

For vehicle owners, staying vigilant and reacting swiftly is essential. Proper fitting of wheels and hubs is crucial to avoiding hazardous situations while driving.
