Indian Man Arrested in US for Multi-Car Crash That Injured a Child

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

A tragic road accident in California has highlighted serious safety and immigration concerns in the United States. Partap Singh, an Indian national who entered the US illegally, has been arrested for causing a multi-vehicle crash last year. The crash critically injured a five-year-old child, Dalilah Coleman, and left her with permanent life-altering injuries.

The Incident

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the accident occurred in June 2024. Partap Singh was driving a commercial 18-wheeler truck at unsafe speed. He failed to stop for traffic signals and ignored a construction zone. This caused a massive multi-car pileup that injured several people, including Dalilah Coleman and her stepfather, Michael Krause.

Dalilah suffered severe injuries. She went into a coma for three weeks, underwent six months of hospital treatment, and had a craniectomy, leaving half of her skull without protection for four months. She also broke her femur, had skull fractures, and was later diagnosed with diplegic cerebral palsy and global developmental delay. Dalilah will require life-long therapy.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem called the incident “entirely preventable” and criticized California authorities for allowing Singh to obtain a commercial driver’s license despite being in the US illegally.

Immigration and Safety Concerns

Partap Singh had crossed the southern US border illegally in October 2022. After entering, he was released into the country by the Biden administration. He later obtained a commercial driver’s license from California’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

This is not the first case of its kind. In August, another Indian man, Harjinder Singh, was arrested for causing a fatal crash in Florida while driving an 18-wheeler. That crash killed three people instantly. Both cases show how illegal immigration and access to commercial driving licenses can create serious safety risks for Americans.

Government Response

After Harjinder Singh’s accident, the US paused issuing new worker visas for commercial truck drivers. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that foreign drivers operating large trucks on US roads are endangering lives and affecting the livelihoods of American truckers. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has also started investigations into these crashes.

Call for Action

These tragic incidents underline the need for stricter checks on commercial driver licenses and better monitoring of illegal immigration. While the US has policies to allow workers and immigrants to enter legally, incidents like these show gaps in safety and law enforcement. American authorities must balance immigration policy with public safety to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
