The International Trademark Association (INTA) has opened its new regional office in Dubai, marking a major step in its global expansion strategy. The office will serve members across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), helping strengthen the protection of intellectual property (IP) in the region.
Serving Members Across the Region
The Dubai office will support INTA’s 837 members from 263 organisations, including businesses, law firms, and academic institutions. This new hub will enable closer collaboration with governments, private sector companies, and educational bodies to promote better trademark and IP protection.
Dubai Chosen for Strategic Advantages
INTA selected Dubai as its regional headquarters due to the city’s advanced infrastructure, strong IP legislation, and central location linking local and global markets. Partnerships with the UAE Ministry of Economy, Dubai Chambers, and the Emirates Intellectual Property Association will help INTA strengthen IP awareness and enforcement in the region.
Fighting Counterfeiting and Promoting Innovation
Through this office, INTA plans to enhance efforts to combat counterfeit goods and support countries in developing strong IP systems. Egypt and Saudi Arabia have already implemented frameworks for national IP strategies, and INTA will assist other countries in adopting similar measures.
Economic Importance of Intellectual Property
The MENA region, with a combined GDP of around $5.2 trillion, represents a key market for trademarks and creative industries. The region’s consumer market, valued at $768 billion in 2023, is expected to grow to $1.4 trillion by 2032. This growth is driven by economic diversification across healthcare, energy, fintech, and telecommunications sectors.
Supporting Global Innovation and Collaboration
The Dubai office also plays a strategic role in preparing for INTA’s Annual Meeting in Dubai in 2029. The event will serve as a global platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovation in intellectual property protection.
With the new office, INTA aims to promote investment, support entrepreneurship, and create a secure environment for businesses to grow. This expansion reflects the region’s focus on innovation and economic diversification, highlighting the importance of IP protection as a foundation for future development.
