Jordan Beats UAE 2-1 to Lead Group C in FIFA Arab Cup 2025

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Jordan began their FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 campaign with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates at Al Bayt Stadium. This win puts Jordan at the top of Group C, giving them an early advantage in the tournament. The match saw exciting moments, dramatic penalties, and key performances that set the tone for the group stage.

The first goal came in the 20th minute when Ali Olwan scored from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded after UAE defender Khalid Al Dhahnahi fouled Yazan Al Naimat inside the box. This early goal gave Jordan the lead and a boost of confidence. Jordan controlled most of the first half, creating several chances and keeping the UAE under pressure. However, a second penalty opportunity was denied as UAE goalkeeper Hamad Al Maqbali made a brilliant save just before half-time, keeping his team in the match.

Despite being reduced to ten men, the UAE showed determination and managed to equalise early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Bruno Oliveira delivered a precise cross from Luan Pereira, which found its way into the net. The goal temporarily lifted the UAE spirits and suggested a possible comeback. However, Jordan responded quickly to regain control and take the lead again.

Jordan’s second goal came just after the hour mark when Yazan Al Naimat scored, finishing a move started by Nizar Al Rashdan. The goal was initially checked by VAR, which confirmed it as valid. This restored Jordan’s lead at 2-1 and gave them the edge in the match. After the goal, Jordan continued to create scoring chances but were unable to extend their lead further. Meanwhile, the UAE pressed hard in the final minutes but could not find an equaliser, ending the match with a narrow defeat.

The result leaves Jordan at the top of Group C with two points more than Egypt and Kuwait, who played out a 1-1 draw earlier in the week. The UAE remains at the bottom of the group, yet to score any points. Jordan’s win demonstrates their strength in key moments, their ability to capitalise on opponent mistakes, and their effective use of penalties and quick counterattacks.

This victory is an important start for Jordan in the FIFA Arab Cup, showing that they can handle pressure situations and remain competitive against strong regional teams. The team will now aim to maintain their lead and build momentum as the group stage progresses. For the UAE, the match was a learning experience, highlighting areas for improvement, especially in defence and capitalising on scoring opportunities.

Fans of both teams witnessed a highly engaging match filled with drama, skillful plays, and intense competition. Jordan’s controlled approach, combined with key individual performances, proved decisive in securing the win. With this result, Jordan sets an early benchmark in Group C, signalling their intent to progress to the later stages of the tournament. The next matches in the group will be crucial for all teams as they fight for a place in the knockout rounds.
