In a decisive move, Nanning, the capital of Guangxi province in southwestern China, has elevated its flood emergency response to Level I—the highest alert possible—due to the devastating rainfall brought in by Typhoon Maysak.
As reported by China Central Television (CCTV), this upgrade from Level III to Level I was necessitated by the intense rainfall impacting the city, which houses nearly 9 million residents facing heightened flood dangers as the storm persists.
According to state-run reports, a breach has been confirmed at a medium reservoir in Hengzhou, an area managed by Nanning. In a proactive response, local authorities have started evacuating residents from the affected regions to safeguard their well-being.

Officials are diligently monitoring the rising flood conditions, as heavy precipitation continues to challenge water bodies throughout the area.
Typhoon Maysak made its initial landfall at Hainan, China’s southern island province, last Friday, marking this year’s first tropical cyclone to strike the mainland.
After departing from Hainan, the storm made a subsequent landfall in Vietnam on Sunday, just across the border from Guangxi, where its effects are still being felt.
Meteorologists in China indicate that Typhoon Maysak is expected to further weaken as it advances inland. However, remnants of the storm, along with the southwest seasonal rains, are likely to cause ongoing heavy rainfall across Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, and adjacent regions.
Authorities are remaining vigilant, as further rain could exacerbate the flooding threats in impacted areas.
