Netflix and Apple TV Expand Formula One Coverage in US

Netflix and Apple TV Expand Formula One Coverage in US

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Netflix will broadcast the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix live for viewers in the United States this May, as part of a new content partnership linked to the release of Season 8 of the popular docu-series Drive to Survive.

The race is part of the 2025 Formula One season and marks a rare live sports broadcast by Netflix in the US market. The streaming giant had previously shown interest in securing full US broadcasting rights for Formula One, according to media reports last year.

Meanwhile, Apple TV has officially replaced ESPN, owned by The Walt Disney Company, as the exclusive US broadcaster of Formula One for this season. Apple TV will provide live coverage of all 24 races in the 2025 calendar.

Season 8 of Drive to Survive launches globally on Friday. The new season offers exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the 2025 championship campaign, which was won by McLaren and its driver Lando Norris.

The 2026 Formula One season begins in Australia on March 8 and will feature three races in the United States.

Apple’s Senior Vice-President of Services, Eddy Cue, said during a video call that select races and practice sessions will also be available for free throughout the season, although full details have not yet been shared.

He described the partnership as a long-term collaboration aimed at expanding Formula One’s reach across Apple’s platforms. Cue also acknowledged Netflix’s role in growing the sport’s popularity in recent years through Drive to Survive.

Formula One’s Chief Media Rights and Broadcast Officer, Ian Holmes, praised ESPN’s previous contribution to growing the sport in the US market and called the Apple partnership “the next big iteration” for Formula One.

Holmes added that Formula One continues to attract a younger and increasingly female audience, particularly in the United States, making the Apple deal a forward-looking move for the sport’s future growth.
