Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has launched a specialized training programme on International Humanitarian Law to strengthen the skills of humanitarian personnel across the GCC. The two-day programme, organized in partnership with the Secretariat General of GCC States, brings together members of Red Crescent societies, OCO staff, and government representatives.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of the basic principles of humanitarian law and improve the capabilities of personnel working in humanitarian missions. It focuses on best practices in providing relief aid, protecting civilians, and responding effectively to disasters and emergencies.
The first day of the programme included panel discussions and practical exercises to help participants understand how to conduct humanitarian operations in line with international rules.
Badr bin Mohammed Al Zaabi, Acting CEO of OCO, said the programme reflects the organization’s commitment to regional and international cooperation in humanitarian work. He emphasized that International Humanitarian Law provides a crucial framework for protecting people during crises and conflicts.
Al Zaabi added that joint action among GCC states is important to enhance the readiness of humanitarian institutions. The programme is designed to ensure that personnel can respond quickly and effectively while adhering to the standards of international law.
Through such initiatives, OCO seeks to strengthen the knowledge and preparedness of humanitarian teams, enabling them to deliver aid efficiently and ethically across the region, while reinforcing the importance of international legal principles in all emergency operations.
