During Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s official visit to Minsk, Oman and Belarus signed a historic mutual visa exemption agreement on Monday. The signing, witnessed by Sultan Haitham and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, allows citizens of both nations to travel freely and strengthens diplomatic relations.
Details of Visa-Free Travel
Under the new pact, citizens holding valid passports for at least six months can enter, exit, or transit without a visa. Stays are limited to 30 consecutive days per visit or a maximum of 90 days in a calendar year. The agreement aims to facilitate tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange, making travel between Oman and Belarus easier than ever.
Expanding Economic Cooperation
Beyond the visa agreement, Oman and Belarus signed several cooperation pacts targeting trade, industry, and investment. A roadmap for stronger bilateral relations was introduced, along with plans to build a pulp and paperboard mill in Belarus, demonstrating a commitment to industrial collaboration and mutual economic growth.
Strengthening Judicial and Legal Ties
In the judicial sector, both nations agreed to enhance legal cooperation through a memorandum of understanding between their supreme courts. This initiative will allow the exchange of expertise, sharing of best practices, and improved coordination in judicial matters, reinforcing legal and institutional collaboration.
Boosting Health and Medical Research
Health sector collaboration was also strengthened with an MoU signed between Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre and Belarus’ N. N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre. This agreement focuses on oncology research, medical training, and exchange programs, ensuring both nations benefit from shared knowledge and expertise in healthcare.
Agriculture and Food Cooperation
The ministries of agriculture, fisheries, and food production from both countries agreed to collaborate on increasing productivity and adopting sustainable practices. These efforts underline a comprehensive approach to enhancing food security, environmental stewardship, and sustainable growth in both Oman and Belarus.
The agreements mark a new era in Oman-Belarus relations, promoting mutual trust and opening avenues for deeper engagement across multiple sectors. With visa-free travel and expanded cooperation in industry, health, law, and agriculture, the two nations are set to strengthen ties and build a foundation for long-term partnership.
