Oman Explores New Tourism Markets Through Special Workshop

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman organized an important workshop in Muscat called "Prospects of the Tourism Sector in the Sultanate of Oman". This workshop was part of the “Marhaba Oman” event, which focuses mainly on European tourism markets. The event aims to highlight Oman as a beautiful and attractive travel destination for visitors from different parts of Europe.

The ministry has selected several European markets for its 2025 tourism promotion plan. These countries include Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, and Belarus. These markets were chosen because they have strong potential to increase the number of tourists visiting Oman. Many travelers from these countries are interested in nature, culture, adventure, and warm destinations—areas where Oman has strong advantages.

The main purpose of the workshop was to study these tourism markets and explore new opportunities that can help Oman grow its tourism sector. The ministry aims to welcome around 70 tourism companies from these countries. This will help strengthen communication between Omani tourism businesses and international travel companies. By doing this, Oman hopes to attract more tourists, build long-term partnerships, and increase its global tourism presence.

During the workshop, the ministry introduced important information about the unique tourism products that Oman offers. These include Omani heritage sites, natural landscapes, cultural experiences, hotels, desert adventures, mountain trips, and coastal attractions. The aim was to help the visiting tourism companies understand what makes Oman special, so they can promote it in their home markets.

As part of the larger program, visitors will join several touristic excursions to experience Oman directly. These trips cover many major governorates, including Musandam, A’Dakhiliyah, South and North A’Sharqiyah, Muscat, and Dhofar. Each governorate has its own cultural and natural beauty, which helps visitors understand the variety and richness of Oman’s tourism offerings.

During these visits, the participants will explore important cultural and heritage sites. They will see historical forts, traditional markets, mountains, beaches, and villages that represent the deep history of Oman. They will also learn about handicraft products made by Omani artisans. These products show the creativity and heritage of Oman and help visitors understand the country’s identity and traditions.

Another important part of the workshop is the training program. Visiting tourism companies will receive training on how to promote Omani products and experiences in their countries. This includes learning about hotels, travel routes, activities, cultural experiences, and local adventures that tourists can enjoy in Oman. The training helps them become better prepared to market Oman effectively.

The program also includes business meetings between the visitors and local tourism partners. These meetings allow both sides to discuss cooperation opportunities and plan how to market Oman internationally. Such interactions help build strong professional relationships and create new possibilities for future tourism development.

The event also includes several joint workshops and sessions where participants share expertise and ideas. These workshops help everyone understand best practices in tourism promotion. They also support better cooperation among companies and help develop new tourism strategies for 2025.

The “Marhaba Oman” tourism event and this workshop show Oman’s strong commitment to growing its tourism sector. By connecting with European markets, promoting cultural and natural attractions, and strengthening global partnerships, Oman aims to welcome more tourists in the coming years. This effort will support economic growth, create jobs, and highlight Oman as a global tourism destination full of beauty, heritage, and warm hospitality.
