Oman Olympic Committee Provides Grants To Athletes For 2028

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Oman Olympic Committee has signed Olympic grant agreements to support several Omani athletes. This is part of preparations for the 34th Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028. The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee.

Committee’s Vision And Goals

HH Sayyid Azzan said that this initiative is an important step in preparing a new generation of athletes who can compete at the highest international level. He highlighted that Oman received 10 Olympic grants this year, more than the usual 6 grants allocated by the International Olympic Committee. This shows growing confidence in Oman’s ability to manage Olympic Solidarity programs with efficiency and transparency.

Collaboration With National Federations

The success of this initiative is attributed to close cooperation between the Oman Olympic Committee and national sports federations. These organizations work hard to train and prepare athletes using scientific methods and proper planning for Olympic qualification.

Integrated National Project For Athletes

HH Sayyid Azzan explained that these grants are a key part of a national project to produce Olympic champions. The project combines the national vision, institutional support, and the ambitions of young Omani athletes to achieve international success.

Ceremony And Beneficiary Athletes

The ceremony included a short film about the Olympic Grants program, its rules, and how athletes can benefit. Interviews with the selected athletes were also shown. Agreements were then signed between the Oman Olympic Committee and the ten athletes, covering three individual Olympic sports.

Athletes Selected For Grants

From the Oman Taekwondo Committee, Fida Fuad Al Barwani, Dawoud Fahd Al Yousefi, and Muhannad Tawfiq Al Balushi were selected. From the Oman Fencing Committee, Ahmed Anwar Kaskas, Israa Saif Al Siyabi, and Janna Mohammed Al Sharji were chosen. From the Oman Athletics Federation, Ali Anwar Al Balushi, Mulham Darwish Al Balushi, Fatek Abdulghafoor Sanjour, and Alia Faiq Al Mughairi were selected.

Purpose Of Olympic Grants Program

The Olympic Grants program helps athletes nominated by National Olympic Committees in preparing for the Olympics. It provides financial and technical support, improves training conditions, and helps athletes compete at high levels. The program also encourages global participation and supports countries with smaller delegations, including promoting women’s participation in sports.

Selection Process And Standards

The Oman Olympic Committee carefully prepared a comprehensive file for these grants, meeting international technical and administrative standards. Sports federations nominated athletes based on their results, technical records, and achievements in national and international competitions. This ensured that the selection process was fair and comprehensive.
