Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet has reaffirmed the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the need for safe and uninterrupted shipping in one of the world’s most important waterways. The statement came during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah on Tuesday.
The Saudi Cabinet said it hopes peace can be achieved in a way that strengthens both regional and global security. It stressed the importance of respecting the security interests of countries in the region while also respecting their internal affairs. The Cabinet emphasized that restoring normal movement through the Strait of Hormuz is essential after disruptions caused by recent military tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil and trade shipments. Maritime tracking data showed that shipping traffic remained limited on Tuesday, despite an agreement reached two days earlier between the United States and Iran aimed at ending their conflict and reopening the strategic waterway.
The Cabinet welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran to stop military operations and begin detailed negotiations. Saudi officials expressed hope that the talks would lead to a lasting agreement that supports peace and stability across the region.
Saudi Arabia also praised the mediation efforts of Pakistan and Qatar, recognizing their role in helping both sides reach the agreement. The Cabinet said diplomatic efforts are important for reducing tensions and promoting long-term regional stability.
During the meeting, the Cabinet also expressed gratitude for the successful organization of the Hajj 2026 season. According to official figures, around 1.7 million pilgrims performed Hajj rituals smoothly and safely. The Cabinet thanked the Supreme Hajj Committee and all government agencies and workers who contributed to serving pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage.
In addition, the Cabinet welcomed the decision by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to open its first cybersecurity-focused office in Riyadh. Saudi officials said the move reflects the Kingdom’s growing role in cybersecurity and its efforts to create a secure digital environment that supports economic growth and international cooperation.
The latest Cabinet decisions highlight Saudi Arabia’s focus on regional peace, secure global trade routes, successful management of major events such as Hajj, and continued investment in future sectors like cybersecurity. The Kingdom continues to support diplomatic solutions and international partnerships aimed at promoting stability and development.
