The Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award, an initiative by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has reached the final evaluation stage of its 22nd cycle, reflecting its growing importance as one of the UAE’s leading national platforms recognising the economic and social impact created by businesses and individuals across Abu Dhabi.
This year’s cycle recorded strong participation, receiving more than 230 applications, marking an increase of over 80 percent compared to the 21st cycle. The data also shows a diverse range of applicants, with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups making up around 60 percent of total submissions.
Participation from different regions also increased. More than 10 percent of company applications came from Al Ain and the Al Dhafra Region, highlighting the award’s expanding reach across various economic sectors and regions within Abu Dhabi.
Under its updated framework, the award focuses on measuring the real impact of private sector contributions across seven key areas. These include talent development, technology adoption, community and society support, SME leadership, supply chains, exports, and entrepreneurship. The initiative aims to highlight the important role the private sector plays in strengthening the emirate’s economy and improving the competitiveness of its business environment.
The award was established in 1999 by the Abu Dhabi Chamber and is named after the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Over the years, it has developed into a major national platform that encourages innovation, sustainability, and impactful business practices across the UAE.
In the current cycle, the evaluation process goes beyond recognising business performance. It also measures how companies and individuals turn their efforts into real economic and social impact. The assessment focuses on innovation, building capabilities, expanding into new markets, and contributing to Abu Dhabi’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
The award follows a structured evaluation process that begins with digital registration, followed by an initial assessment, and finally impact interviews with shortlisted participants. A panel of independent assessors and judges supervises the process to ensure transparency, fairness, and objectivity.
Participation in the award is open to several categories, including corporate companies, family businesses, SMEs, startups, scaleups, and nominated individuals, reflecting the award’s inclusive approach and its support for all segments of the private sector.
