Space42, the UAE’s leading space technology company, has achieved a new milestone by successfully shipping three Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites—Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5—from its Space Systems facility in Abu Dhabi to the United States. These satellites were produced in partnership with ICEYE, a world leader in SAR satellite operations. The achievement marks the first time that advanced SAR satellites have been fully integrated and tested within the UAE, reflecting the nation’s growing capability in space manufacturing.
Strengthening UAE’s National Space Strategy
The launch of these satellites supports the UAE’s broader National Space Strategy 2030, which aims to develop strong, sovereign capabilities in satellite manufacturing and operations. This achievement highlights how far the UAE has come in developing its domestic space industry, moving from importing satellite technologies to designing, assembling, and testing them locally. It also underscores the country’s goal of becoming a regional hub for space innovation and Earth Observation (EO) systems.
A Step Toward Sovereign Space Capability
Khalid Al Awadhi, Senior Vice President of Earth Observation Systems at Space42, described the shipment as a proud moment for both Space42 and the UAE. He said, “For the first time, satellites with advanced SAR technology have been fully tested in the UAE. This shows how the nation has progressed from relying on imported systems to creating world-class space solutions in collaboration with international partners.” He added that these satellites will strengthen the Foresight Constellation, expand the UAE’s sovereign capability, and reinforce its leadership in AI-powered space technologies.
Foresight Constellation: Expanding the UAE’s Space Reach
The three satellites—Foresight-3, -4, and -5—will join the existing Foresight Constellation, which already includes Foresight-1 (launched in August 2024) and Foresight-2 (launched in January 2025). Together, they form a powerful network capable of capturing 25-centimetre resolution imagery under all weather conditions and across the globe. By 2027, Space42 expects the constellation to reach full maturity, enabling persistent and high-frequency imaging capabilities for a wide range of sectors.
Delivering Real-Time Geospatial Intelligence
Through its SAR imaging capabilities, the Foresight Constellation will provide valuable data for multiple uses, including disaster response, climate monitoring, urban development, logistics, and national security. The imagery captured by the satellites will be processed by GIQ, Space42’s AI-driven geospatial intelligence platform. This system converts raw satellite data into decision-ready insights to support governments, businesses, and organizations in planning, operations, and risk management.
A Model of Global Partnership
The development and shipment of these satellites also demonstrate the power of international collaboration. The production process involved multiple countries—initial manufacturing took place in Finland, while Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) were completed in the UAE. This distributed manufacturing approach showcases how international cooperation can accelerate innovation and improve supply chain resilience. The UAE’s AIT facility provided the environment and technical expertise necessary to complete complex satellite testing with precision and quality.
Empowering Emirati Engineering and Innovation
The success of this project is also a reflection of the Emirati engineering talent and leadership behind Space42’s growing space program. The company’s AIT capability in Abu Dhabi has become a cornerstone of the nation’s SpaceTech infrastructure, offering local engineers hands-on experience with advanced satellite systems. This aligns with the UAE’s goal of nurturing homegrown expertise in high-tech fields such as AI, space manufacturing, and Earth observation.
Advancing Toward Global Space Leadership
Space42’s latest success not only strengthens the UAE’s technological base but also supports its ambition to be a global leader in the space economy. The company plans to expand the Foresight Constellation further through 2027, enhancing global coverage and data delivery speeds. Each new addition will increase the system’s capability to deliver near real-time insights from space, helping the UAE maintain a leading role in geospatial intelligence and sustainable development monitoring.
The Future of UAE SpaceTech
With the continued expansion of the Foresight program, the UAE is positioned to become a key player in space data services and AI-powered analytics. This growth reflects the country’s strategic vision to combine advanced technology, innovation, and global collaboration to drive its future economy. As Space42 continues its journey, the UAE’s flag in the global space community shines brighter than ever—symbolizing progress, innovation, and ambition.
