Strengthening Ties: Vietnam and Cambodia PMs Meet in Hanoi

Post by : Shakul

On June 8, Vietnam's Prime Minister Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Hanoi, emphasizing their enduring partnership. This visit marks Manet's second official trip to Vietnam, coinciding with his attendance at the Third ASEAN Future Forum.

Hosted at the Government Headquarters, the ceremony showcased a festive atmosphere where both leaders exchanged greetings and reviewed the Honor Guard of the Vietnam People’s Army. This event underscored the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.

In high-level discussions that followed, the prime ministers assessed the current state of bilateral cooperation and explored new collaborative opportunities. They also oversaw the signing of multiple agreements, aimed at enhancing political, economic, and people-to-people interactions.

Vietnam and Cambodia's relationship has grown considerably across various sectors in recent years, with both governments actively realizing the agreements from high-level meetings. Consistent exchanges among party leaders, officials, and security entities have fortified these ties, particularly in defense and security.

Economically, both nations have fostered robust engagement, surpassing trade expectations in 2025 and retaining strong growth in early 2026. Vietnam stands as Cambodia's largest trading partner within ASEAN, working towards a bilateral trade goal of $20 billion in coming years.

Investment and tourism have significantly bolstered the bond, with Vietnamese firms undertaking numerous projects in Cambodia, and a steady increase in tourist exchanges. Progress in education, transportation, healthcare, culture, and telecom cooperation has also been noteworthy.

The visit is anticipated to rejuvenate Vietnam-Cambodia relations as they approach the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027. Additionally, PM Hun Manet's participation in the ASEAN Future Forum signifies both countries' dedication to regional cooperation and shared prosperity in Southeast Asia.
