Thailand Greenlights $3.1 Billion Data Center Initiatives

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a strategic move to enhance its digital framework, Thailand has approved four significant data center projects totaling $3.1 billion as of Monday. This decision aligns with a broader initiative aimed at attracting both international and domestic tech investments.

Among these ventures, Dubai-based DAMAC Digital is set to invest in an 84-megawatt (MW) data center, priced at 26.7 billion baht. Additionally, a local firm is set to construct a hyperscale data center featuring an impressive 200 MW IT load, with an investment forecast of 54.9 billion baht. These projects are anticipated to greatly increase the country’s digital infrastructure and generate high-value employment opportunities.

Moreover, Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) has implemented measures to expedite the revival of stalled initiatives valued at $9.2 billion. Investors will gain quicker access to industrial land, assured power supply, and simplified visa and work permit processes. This initiative is aimed at eliminating bureaucratic hold-ups and enhancing investor trust.

Through these developments, Thailand seeks to consolidate its status as a regional leader in data storage, cloud computing, and digital services. Experts suggest that improved infrastructure alongside quicker project approvals could incentivize more multinational tech firms to set up operations within the nation.
