The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Belize following an official bilateral visit by Omar Shehadeh, Envoy of the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Caribbean and Pacific States. The visit focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors, enhancing trade and investment, and exploring new opportunities for long-term partnership.
During the visit, Omar Shehadeh was accompanied by His Excellency Salem Rashed Al Owais, UAE Non-Resident Ambassador to Belize. The delegation held meetings with His Excellency John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize, and Her Excellency Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and identifying areas where both countries can work more closely together. The leaders exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest, including digital transformation and the proposed UAE–CARICOM Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Speaking at the conclusion of the visit, Omar Shehadeh said that the discussions reflected the strong relationship already shared by the UAE and Belize. He stated that the proposed UAE–CARICOM CEPA offers an important opportunity to expand trade and investment while creating long-term economic benefits. He also reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to working closely with Belize and its regional partners to develop an agreement that supports sustainable economic growth.
Officials also reviewed how the proposed UAE–CARICOM Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement could strengthen commercial ties, encourage investment, increase economic cooperation, and create new opportunities for sustainable development across the Caribbean region.

During the meetings, invitations were extended to relevant counterparts to participate in major global events, including the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal later this year.
Shehadeh highlighted the importance of the conference in promoting international cooperation on water security and sustainable development. He noted that the event will also focus on supporting the needs of Small Island Developing States across the Caribbean.
The official visit concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding partnerships that promote economic development and mutual prosperity across the Caribbean region.
