Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE’s Minister of Economy and Tourism, led the country’s delegation at the 69th meeting of the GCC Committee for Commercial Cooperation, held in Kuwait. The meeting brought together ministers and senior officials from all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to discuss new ways to strengthen economic and trade collaboration in the region.
The main focus of the meeting was to explore strategies that would further enhance economic and investment cooperation among the GCC countries. The discussions centered on increasing market integration, boosting competitiveness, and ensuring that the region remains a key player in the global economy. Participants agreed that cooperation among GCC nations plays a vital role in achieving sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
During the meeting, Abdullah bin Touq reaffirmed the UAE’s strong commitment to supporting collective GCC efforts in every sector. He emphasized that under the guidance of the nation’s wise leadership, the UAE continues to prioritize joint initiatives that strengthen the resilience of the Gulf economy. He described the GCC as a powerful regional and global economic hub that must continue evolving through innovation and collaboration.
The UAE minister highlighted the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship as essential drivers of sustainable development. He noted that empowering entrepreneurs and supporting SMEs can help create jobs, stimulate innovation, and diversify the economy. To achieve this, he called for more joint programs that provide financial and insurance support, business development services, and easier access to regional and global value chains.
The committee members also discussed several initiatives designed to encourage innovation and attract new investments across the Gulf region. They explored ways to develop integrated economic zones, enhance the flow of capital and goods, and promote fair competition. These steps are expected to strengthen investor confidence and make GCC countries even more attractive destinations for international partnerships.
A major topic at the meeting was expanding economic cooperation between GCC countries and leading global markets. The ministers stressed the importance of building stronger trade relationships with large economic blocs such as the European Union, East Asia, and North America. This approach aims to diversify trade partnerships, reduce dependence on any single market, and enhance the Gulf region’s economic influence worldwide.
Another important part of the discussion focused on developing unified GCC commercial legislation to create a more integrated and efficient market. The committee reviewed progress on several laws, including competition regulations and a unified framework for e-commerce and digital trade. These efforts aim to improve transparency, support fair practices, and ensure that businesses in all GCC countries can operate within a clear and consistent legal framework.
The meeting also reviewed initiatives to improve the overall investment environment across the GCC. Member states exchanged insights on how to simplify procedures, enhance digital infrastructure, and support innovation-led industries. The ministers agreed that continued progress in these areas would help attract new investors and foster long-term economic stability in the region.
In his remarks, Bin Touq emphasized that the UAE views the GCC as a vital platform for shared growth and innovation. He underlined the importance of aligning economic strategies with global trends, particularly in technology, digital trade, and sustainability. The UAE’s ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation are in line with the broader GCC goals of building a diversified, future-ready economy.
The 69th meeting of the GCC Committee for Commercial Cooperation reaffirmed the shared commitment of Gulf nations to deepen regional economic ties and strengthen their collective global presence. The UAE’s participation, led by Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, reflects its ongoing dedication to regional cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development. The meeting’s outcomes are expected to drive stronger integration among GCC markets and open new opportunities for investors, entrepreneurs, and businesses across the region.
