The United Arab Emirates has renewed its call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan, saying the recent escalation of violence in and around El Obeid demonstrates that the conflict cannot be resolved through military action. The UAE stressed that an urgent humanitarian truce is also needed to reduce civilian suffering and allow aid to reach affected communities.
The appeal was made during an urgent session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which convened to discuss the deteriorating situation in the city of El Obeid and the wider conflict across Sudan.
In its statement, the UAE strongly condemned all violations of international law committed by both parties involved in the conflict. It reiterated its strongest condemnation of attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable under international law.
The UAE said the ongoing violence continues to place civilians at serious risk and underlined the importance of ensuring their protection throughout the conflict.
The UAE also urged the international community to expand the existing United Nations arms embargo so that it covers the entire territory of Sudan. According to the statement, broadening the embargo is a necessary step to help reduce hostilities, limit the flow of weapons, and strengthen efforts to protect civilians affected by the fighting.
The statement further highlighted that measures aimed at reducing violence should remain a priority as part of broader international efforts to address the crisis.
The UAE stressed that humanitarian organizations must be able to reach all affected areas safely and without obstruction. It called for safe, rapid, and unhindered humanitarian access to ensure that essential assistance can be delivered to people impacted by the conflict.

The statement emphasized that uninterrupted humanitarian operations are vital for supporting civilians living in conflict-affected regions.
As a member of the Sudan Quad, the UAE welcomed the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, particularly the platform it provided for Sudanese civilians to participate in discussions related to the country's future.
The UAE also expressed support for the Quintet's ongoing diplomatic efforts to advance the civilian track, describing these initiatives as important steps toward achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Concluding its statement, the UAE reaffirmed that the international community's primary objective should be to support a comprehensive political process led by civilians. It said this process must remain independent of both the warring parties and extremist groups while reflecting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
The UAE reiterated that only a civilian-led political solution, supported by an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian access, and sustained international engagement, can provide a path toward lasting peace and stability in Sudan.
