Tragedy struck the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Sports Bowl in Tanjong Malim when a 53-year-old cleaner suffered a fatal heart attack, as confirmed by police on Tuesday. Authorities assured the public that there was no foul play involved.
According to Muallim district police chief Khalid Mohamad, emergency services were notified via the NG999 system at 1.57am. A response team was deployed promptly, finding the Ministry of Health and Fire and Rescue Department already on-site. The victim was discovered unconscious in a utility room.
Medical responders attempted CPR for around 15 minutes. Unfortunately, he was declared dead at 2.23am. Preliminary investigations indicated no signs of injury or criminal activity, with the body later transferred to Slim River Hospital for a post-mortem.
The autopsy determined the cause of death as sudden cardiac arrest and classified the case as a sudden death. Police have requested the community to refrain from speculation and to respect the grieving family's privacy. Prior to the incident, UPSI Sports Bowl manager Dzulkarnain Sapian mentioned that the deceased, Mohd Radzi Ariffin, had experienced headaches and was discovered missing when his wife went to look for him.
