UAE Jiu-Jitsu Championship Set for May 2–3 in Dubai

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation has confirmed that the Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup is scheduled for May 2 to 3 at Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai. This prestigious event will see nine elite clubs and academies ranging across the nation competing in a dynamic team format.

With an impressive prize pool exceeding AED 1 million, rewards will be distributed among the top three competitive clubs across all divisions. The first rounds will commence on Saturday, culminating in finals on Sunday.

The tournament is divided into four age divisions: adults, under-18, under-16, and under-14. Depending on the number of teams participating, match structures will vary, including best-of-three formats and round-robin play leading to the finals.

Recognized as a highlight of the UAE sports calendar, the Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup is known for its intense competition and participation from premier clubs.

Last year’s edition saw a diverse array of champions, with titles shared by four different clubs: Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club clinched the under-14 title, Al Ain took home the under-16 championship, Al Jazira won the under-18 division, and Baniyas emerged triumphant in the adult category. These results underscored the increasing depth of talent among the clubs.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Federation, emphasized the significance of this tournament in uniting premier clubs and showcasing team performance. He remarked that events like these are crucial for athletes to gauge their readiness and foster national talent development.

Ribamar Santiago, Head Coach of Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club, highlighted that team competitions necessitate strategic planning over several matches, rather than just concentrating on individual bouts. He anticipates that this year's tournament will present greater challenges due to enhanced preparation from all clubs.
