Tokyo School Fire Triggers Panic, 11 Injured in Safe Evacuation

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A fire broke out at an elementary school in central Tokyo on Friday, injuring 11 people and triggering a large-scale emergency response. Authorities confirmed that all approximately 300 students and staff members were safely evacuated or rescued from the building.

According to the Tokyo Fire Department, the fire started late Friday morning near a music room on the fourth floor of Takinogawa No. 3 Elementary School, a four-story building located in downtown Tokyo.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and rescued one teacher and three students from inside the school. Officials said their injuries were not life-threatening. The remaining students and staff safely evacuated to a nearby park before emergency crews completed rescue operations.

Local media reports said 11 people were injured in the incident. Among them were a teacher who suffered a broken hip and two children who sustained broken arms while escaping the building. Several others experienced smoke inhalation and received medical treatment.

Television footage showed thick black smoke rising from the top floor as dozens of fire engines worked to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire later in the afternoon.

An 11-year-old student told local media that he heard people shouting “Run!” while attending an English class. Despite feeling scared, he said he followed his teacher’s instructions and remained calm during the evacuation.

Officials confirmed that no one was left inside the school after the evacuation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
