4.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Residents in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province were briefly shaken awake early Wednesday after a moderate earthquake passed through the region. Many people reported feeling light vibrations, while others shared their experiences on social media. Despite the surprise, authorities quickly confirmed that the situation was calm and under control.

The 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck at around 2:11 am local time. Officials said the tremor occurred deep underground, at about 50 kilometres below the surface. Because of this depth, the shaking was felt but did not cause serious impact on the ground.

Saudi monitoring agencies, including the Saudi Geological Survey, confirmed that there were no injuries and no damage to homes, roads, or public buildings. Emergency teams remained on alert, but no action was needed as daily life continued normally across the province.

Experts explained that Saudi Arabia can experience small earthquakes from time to time due to natural movements of the Arabian Plate. These movements slowly release pressure beneath the earth and usually result in minor tremors rather than destructive quakes.

Officials also reassured the public that nearby countries were not affected. The UAE’s weather and seismic authorities confirmed that the tremor did not reach their territory and posed no threat to coastal areas in the Gulf region.

This was the fourth noticeable tremor recorded in or near Saudi Arabia in 2025. Geologists say such events are normal and help prevent larger earthquakes. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity closely to ensure public safety at all times.
