Famous Indian music composer AR Rahman recently met Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, to discuss an exciting new project called ‘Secret Mountain.’ This project is based on artificial intelligence (AI) and aims to create a virtual music experience with a global reach. The two creative minds spoke about how AI can empower people and be used in new and imaginative ways.

Rahman Announces Collaboration on Social Media

The 58-year-old Oscar-winning composer shared the news on social media platform X. In his post, Rahman said:

“It was a pleasure to meet sama at his office. We discussed ‘Secret Mountain’, our virtual global band, and how we can use AI tools to uplift Indian minds and tackle generational problems.”

This statement reflects Rahman’s vision of using advanced technology not just for music but also for creating positive change in society.

What is the Secret Mountain Project?

AR Rahman first introduced the Secret Mountain project on February 14, 2024, with a 4-minute 35-second video posted on YouTube. The video, titled "Introducing the Secret Mountain," gives a first look at this innovative storytelling idea. It uses a mix of music, virtual reality, and AI to create a new kind of entertainment experience.

The story follows a character named Luna, who invites the audience into a mysterious, magical world known as Secret Mountain. As Luna says in the opening lines of the video:

“Hey, I’m Luna. Let me tell you a story. Like most of us, I have been wandering the jungle of doomscrolling instead of gratification.”

This message seems to be a creative way of addressing the problem of mindless internet use, offering something more meaningful instead.

A New Kind of Music Experience in the Metaverse

In the story, Luna finds herself in a metaverse-like universe where she meets several other characters: Cara, Blessing, Ekam, Zentamழ், David, and Aafia. These are not ordinary characters; they are musical personalities from different cultures and backgrounds, each bringing a unique sound and style.

This creative approach shows how the project aims to bring together global music traditions in a virtual world. It also shows how technology like AI and the metaverse can be used to build new ways to experience music and stories.

Collaboration with Sam Altman

Meeting with Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI—the company behind powerful AI tools like ChatGPT—is a strong signal that the project is serious about using AI in music and storytelling. Rahman’s collaboration with Altman may help explore how AI can support creativity, not replace it.

By working together, Rahman and Altman aim to create a space where AI and human creativity blend, especially encouraging young minds in India to take advantage of this powerful new technology.

Focus on Empowering Indian Talent

Rahman has always supported the idea of using technology to empower the next generation. With this project, he wants to inspire Indian youth to use AI tools to solve problems, create music, and tell stories that connect with people across the world.

Instead of seeing AI as a threat to human creativity, Rahman’s vision is to use it as a partner—something that can support artistic expression and give rise to fresh, global talent.

A Virtual Global Band

The concept of a “virtual global band” is one of the most interesting parts of the project. This means musicians from around the world, represented by animated or AI-powered characters, will come together in a shared digital space to perform and tell stories.

This band will not be limited by location or language. It will allow people from anywhere to join in, learn, and create music together—breaking boundaries in the world of music and technology.

Positive Response on Social Media

Fans of Rahman and tech lovers have shown excitement about the announcement. The video and social media posts have received praise for their creativity and bold ideas. Many believe this project could change how we think about music, storytelling, and technology.

The concept is especially appealing to young artists who want to explore the world of AI, digital storytelling, and global collaboration.

Rahman’s Global Influence and Future Plans

AR Rahman is already known around the world for his music in films like Slumdog Millionaire, Roja, and Lagaan. Now, he seems ready to make a mark in the world of AI and virtual creativity.

His recent posts also included a selfie with Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer during the promotion of the Indian film Ramayana. This shows Rahman is actively involved in global creative partnerships and plans to blend cultures through innovative projects like Secret Mountain.

The Bigger Picture: AI in the Arts

AI is becoming more common in music, filmmaking, writing, and other creative fields. Projects like Secret Mountain show how AI can be used as a tool to enhance human imagination, not just to automate tasks.

By including characters with diverse musical styles and focusing on storytelling, Rahman’s vision is more than just entertainment. It’s about building community, creativity, and connection across cultures.

AR Rahman’s new AI-powered project, Secret Mountain, is a bold step into the future of music and technology. Through a meeting with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Rahman has confirmed his dedication to using AI to create a virtual global band, inspire Indian talent, and push the boundaries of musical storytelling.

The project combines music, culture, AI, and the metaverse to offer a unique digital experience that could transform how people around the world create and enjoy music.

Stay tuned for more as Secret Mountain unfolds and invites the world to join its journey.
