Kuwait City: Kuwait Customs authorities have foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle a synthetic narcotic substance through Terminal 4 of Kuwait International Airport.
The case came to light when customs inspectors stopped a British visitor arriving from the United Kingdom during a routine inspection at the airport. Customs officers checked the passenger and his luggage as part of standard security procedures.
During the inspection, customs officials discovered 228 A4-sized sheets that were suspected of being infused with a narcotic substance identified as meth, locally known in Kuwait as Shabu.
The suspicious items were seized by customs officers for further examination. The discovery led authorities to initiate the required legal procedures against the passenger.
Following the seizure, Kuwait Customs prepared an official arrest report and referred the British passenger and the confiscated items to the General Department for Narcotics Control.
The department will handle the further investigation and take the necessary legal action in accordance with Kuwait's laws. Further details about the investigation or whether other individuals are connected to the case have not been disclosed.
The General Administration of Customs said its officers will continue their efforts to prevent attempts to smuggle prohibited substances into the country.
Authorities are also strengthening inspection and monitoring measures at Kuwait's entry points to detect illegal substances and other prohibited items.
The latest seizure underlines the continued vigilance of Kuwait Customs at Kuwait International Airport, particularly in monitoring passengers and luggage arriving from international destinations. Officials said these measures are aimed at protecting national security and public safety
