Massive Blaze Hits Jammu-Katra Expressway Construction Site, Inflicting ₹2 Crore Damage

Post by : Meena Hassan

On Tuesday night, a significant fire erupted at a construction facility near Khizarpur village in the Talwandi Chaudhrian region of Kapurthala district, where work on the Jammu-Katra Expressway is underway. The incident resulted in severe damages estimated at approximately ₹2 crore.

Officials report that the fire ignited within the facility, which stored high-value chemicals and building materials. The flames quickly escalated, consuming the entire inventory and leading to considerable financial loss.

Firefighting teams promptly arrived to tackle the blaze and worked tirelessly to contain it. Local police from Talwandi Chaudhrian also assisted in the emergency response, prioritizing the safety of adjacent areas.

Store manager Mandeep Singh noted that the facility was secured by 7 PM, with the lights turned off. A security guard detected smoke at around 8 PM and quickly raised the alarm. Unfortunately, by the time emergency crews reached the site, the fire had already spread significantly.

Initial investigations indicate a possible short circuit as the cause, although alternative causes have not been dismissed. Authorities — both police and fire officials — are conducting a thorough inquiry to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.

The substantial loss of valuable materials has dealt a serious blow to the Jammu-Katra Expressway project. In response, officials are reassessing safety measures to mitigate future risks.
