Tragic Death of Broadway's Young Nala, Imani Smith, Under Investigation for Homicide

Post by : Meena Hassan

Imani Smith, renowned for her portrayal of Young Nala in the celebrated Broadway show The Lion King, has sadly lost her life due to an alleged homicide, as reported by authorities and Deadline. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed Smith passed away after being stabbed on December 21 in Edison, New Jersey.

Emergency services responded to a 911 alert and discovered Smith suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was swiftly transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was declared dead.

In relation to Smith's death, her boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, was arrested without resistance and is facing charges of first-degree murder as well as child endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon. Officials noted that Smith and Jackson-Small had a prior acquaintance, indicating the incident was not random.

Smith's aunt, Kira Helper, expressed her grief on a GoFundMe page set up for the late actress's family. She stated, “Imani had so much life left to live. She was a lively, loving individual with remarkable talent. A true triple-threat performer, she prominently portrayed Young Nala on Broadway in Disney's The Lion King, bringing joy and creativity to those around her,” Helper wrote.

The GoFundMe initiative aims to collect $55,000 to provide assistance to Smith's parents, Monique Rance-Helper and Rawni Helper. Imani Smith is survived by her three-year-old son, her parents, aunt, and two younger siblings.

The community is in mourning for a bright young talent whose vibrant life and career were abruptly ended.
