Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has fired back at Mohamed Salah, branding the forward's recent comments on manager Arne Slot as “a blunder.”
Salah expressed his anger after not being included in the starting eleven for Saturday’s 3-3 match against Leeds, stating he felt “sidelined” and implied a lack of rapport with Slot. This marked the third successive match where the Egyptian star didn't start, coinciding with his diminished performance levels.
In reaction to the controversy, the Reds have excluded the 33-year-old from their squad for the upcoming Champions League encounter against Inter Milan, indicating the club's clear discontent with his statements.
Commenting on the matter, Carragher, who lifted the Champions League trophy with Liverpool, remarked: “What he did post-match was quite a blunder. Some might view it as an emotional reaction, but I see it differently. Salah's remarks in a mixed area align too closely with his agent’s strategies to create impactful statements. He picked a critical moment when the club was faltering to challenge the manager, possibly to initiate a change.”
Salah has played a pivotal role for Liverpool, securing two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy in his eight-year career. Even after signing an extension in April, the forward hinted at the possibility of his last game for the team as he prepares for the African Cup of Nations right after their Premier League match against Brighton.
The 33-year-old has reportedly drawn interest from the Saudi Pro League. Regarding this situation, Carragher commented: “The club rightly decided not to permit his transfer overseas. Whether Salah will don a Liverpool jersey again remains uncertain. He is among the club’s all-time greats, but if his conduct persists, his future here could be jeopardized.”
Salah’s statements and subsequent omission from the lineup have sparked significant doubts about his future with Liverpool as the club faces mounting pressures on multiple fronts.
