A major fire broke out at a car parts manufacturing plant in Daejeon on Friday, leaving at least 50 people injured, including 35 who are reported to be in serious condition, according to authorities.
The incident was reported at around 1:17 p.m., prompting the National Fire Agency to issue a national firefighting mobilisation order. This level of response is activated when a fire is too large for local firefighting resources to handle.
Emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, working to control the blaze and rescue those trapped inside the facility. Firefighters continued their efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
Following the incident, Kim Min-seok issued urgent instructions to the interior ministry and fire authorities. He directed them to deploy all available personnel and equipment to ensure rapid rescue operations and bring the fire under control.
Authorities also implemented safety measures across the area. The Daejeon metropolitan government and police enforced traffic control and evacuation procedures to avoid further casualties and ensure public safety.
Officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire, while medical teams continue to treat the injured.
