OpenAI has confirmed plans to combine its major tools, including ChatGPT, Codex, and its browser, into a single desktop “superapp.” The move aims to simplify the user experience and improve overall performance.
According to the company, this decision comes after realizing that managing multiple apps and systems was slowing down development and affecting quality. By bringing everything under one platform, OpenAI wants to make its tools easier to use and more efficient.
Greg Brockman will temporarily lead the product changes and oversee internal restructuring. Meanwhile, Fidji Simo will handle the company’s sales strategy as OpenAI prepares to launch and promote the new unified app.
In an internal note, Simo said that spreading efforts across too many apps created delays and made it harder to maintain high standards. The new approach is expected to fix these issues and speed up innovation.
This step also comes as OpenAI faces strong competition from companies like Anthropic. By combining its tools, OpenAI hopes to stay ahead in the fast-growing AI market, especially in areas like AI-powered coding.
Earlier this year, OpenAI had already launched a separate desktop version of Codex to strengthen its position in the AI code-generation space. Now, with the upcoming superapp, the company is taking a bigger step toward creating an all-in-one AI platform for users.
