Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster, Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, has captivated the Indian film market, reaching ₹600 crore domestically and exceeding ₹900 crore globally. Although initially released only in Hindi, the film has significantly engaged viewers in southern states, leading to a broader, nationwide release plan for its sequel.
Since its premiere on December 5, the film has not only performed well in the Hindi-speaking regions but has also gained traction in critical South Indian territories such as Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Recent audience reports indicate 28.75% occupancy in Hyderabad, 37.25% in Chennai, and a remarkable 49.25% in Bengaluru, figures that challenge those from Mumbai and the National Capital Region. This positive reception has encouraged producers to create dubbed versions of Dhurandhar 2 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, alongside Hindi, marking a significant nationwide distribution.
The conclusion of Dhurandhar provided a tantalizing hint of the protagonist’s complex backstory, setting the groundwork for the sequel, expected to debut on March 19, 2026, during the Eid holidays. This follow-up will delve deeper into Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari (alias Jaskirat Singh Rangi), revealing his covert operations and history, further heightening the film's thriller elements.
This film features a remarkable cast, including Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi. Produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar is helmed by Aditya Dhar, renowned for his compelling storytelling.
Social media engagement and word-of-mouth recommendations have significantly fueled Dhurandhar’s triumph, particularly in South India, where audiences have expressed a strong preference for dubbed versions in their vernacular languages. The sequel's national rollout plans aim to leverage this excitement and capture a broader viewer base.
Dhurandhar 2 is set to be released alongside the highly anticipated Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, featuring Yash and Kiara Advani, promising a thrilling box-office showdown in March 2026.
With the incredible success of Dhurandhar clearing the path, fans are eagerly anticipating this next installment of the action-packed spy narrative, prepared for an exhilarating cinematic journey in various languages throughout India.
